Golden Memorial United Methodist Church
2023 GCORR “Love Your Neighborhood” Academic Scholarship
Greetings brothers and sisters in the name of God the Father! With a steadfast commitment to diversity and inclusion, the ‘Love Your Neighborhood’ initiative of Golden Memorial United Methodist Church is honored to present two (2) $500 scholarships to college-bound students on the subjects of love thy neighbor and diversity and inclusion. For eligibility, students must write a one page essay (300-400 words). In your first paragraph, give a brief introduction of yourself, your intended goals, and career path. Then, complete the essay on one of the following two topics:
- In Mark 12:31, Jesus commands us to, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” What is your definition of love thy neighbor? Name an act of kindness you performed for a neighbor and the resulting impact, OR
- In Ephesians 4:2-3, the Apostle Paul encouraged us to, “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” Thinking about these passages, what is your vision for Christlike diversity and inclusion? As a future leader, give an example of how you would implement and advocate for diversity and inclusion.
In the top, left-hand coner of your essay, place your name, church membership, and phone number. Again, essays must be one (1) page, 300 to 400 words, single-spaced. Also for eligibility, a copy of your college acceptance letter must be attached with your essay. Submit completed essays and acceptance letters via e-mail to Submission@gmail.com or use the online form below by Saturday, June 10, 2023. Students are allowed one (1) essay submission.
Scholarship recipients will be announced Monday, June 26, 2023 and available on the Golden United Methodist Church website at https://goldenmemorialumc.org/.
As you embark on your educational journey, we prayerfully cover and celebrate you and your achievements. Remember that in Matthew 28:19, Christ called us to, “Go and make disciples of all nations.” The Lord is with you as you obediently embrace this call going in peace, love, tolerance, and acceptance – and the greatest of these things being love.
In Christ,
